Arsenal hosted Tottenham Hotspurs in another game of the English Premier League in what is widely known as the North London derby. Mikel Arteta handed Raheem Sterling a starting role after excelling well against Manchester United over the weekend.
Arsenal found themselves in a very awkward position after going down 1-0 through Son Heung-Min’s goal. This increased the momentum of the game and the Arsenal players continued to look for a goal.
Declan Rice took a corner and Gabriel Magalhaes headed it and it fell on Dominic Solanke who headed in his own net and it was counted as an own goal. It took only four minutes and Martin Odegaard gave Leandro Trossard another brilliant pass and the Belgian international scored a spectacular goal from long range.
The first half ended 2-1 in favor of Arsenal. The second half started on a very high note and Ange Postecoglou made some immediate changes in his midfield. He took off the defensive minded players and brought in the attacking minded players.
He took off Pape Matar Sarr and replaced him with Brennan Johnson and Yves Bissouma with James Maddison. He later took off Son Heung-Min.
Mikel Arteta also made some substitutions in order to keep with the pace of the match. He substituted Raheem Sterling and replaced him with Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard with Kieran Tierney, Myles Lewis-Skelly with Oleksandr Zinchenko and Declan Rice with Mikel Merino.
Arsenal got so many chances but the players wasted a lot of those chances. This is because of lack of a proper and clinical finisher who can regularly score goals for the club. Mikel Arteta should do something during this January transfer window and bring in a striker.
Arsenal won the match 2-1 and the win painted North London red. The win has now taken Arsenal back to position two with 43 points, only 4 points fewer than the league leaders, Liverpool.
