Written by A former Kenyatta University Student leader well known as Lwayo Lwayo, has recounted how the late Mathew Nyamlori came to his aid when he was at the verge of dropping out of campus because of financial challenges.
He narrated that, he met Mathew Nyamlori in 2016 when they were still freshers at Kenyatta University. He said that, during this period, things were not moving well in his life because he had just joined the University under the scholarship for the orphans and the vulnerable students which is offered by Kenyatta University.
He narrated that life had taken a tall on him because the scholarship could only cater for his school fees but not the upkeep. This is also the period that his step mother and her children abandoned him and he had nowhere else to seek for help.
One day as he was walking around the Old Administration block, he met Eliud Odongo who was the son to his former Deputy Head teacher in his former Primary School. He narrated to him his ordeal and accepted to accommodate him at his residence in Mfumbiro 2 Hostels though it was a great risk because the House Keepers could check from time to time to see if there was someone pirating illegally.
Fortunately, where Lwayo Lwayo was pirating, is the same hostel where Mathew Nyamlori was also staying and he was the neighbor next door. He met Mathew Nyamlori one Thursday evening, he had passed him in the morning when he was going for his classes and he looked very weak, tired and restless.

When Mathew Nyamlori came back from his classes in the evening, he met him still at the spot where he was in the morning. Mathew Nyamlori then asked him in a roaring voice who he was and whether he was scheming to accomplish a different mission in that hostel like stealing.
Lwayo Lwayo shed tears and this drew Mathew Nyamlori closer to him. He asked him what was the issue and he just found himself opening up to Mathew Nyamlori. He told him that he is tired and he just want to go home.
After listening to his story, Mathew Nyamlori burst into laughter instead of consoling him immediately. He then sat him down and narrated his own story to him, he told him that, he sat for KCPE several times and to be specific nine times and still never gave up.
He told him that he is a man and he should relax and study. He pumped a lot of wisdom unto him and he felt really encouraged.

Mathew Nyamlori did not stop there, he took him to one famous hotel in KM known as Blessed. He introduced Lwayo Lwayo to the owner of the hotel and told him that, he will be taking two meals of his choice every day in that hotel for the whole semester. He also said that, he is the one who will be paying for the meals, his job was to just present himself and eat for the whole semester.
After taking supper that night, he then took him to the supermarket and then did some shopping for him for his upkeep. The shopping that Mathew Nyamlori did for him lasted him for several months.
Mathew Nyamlori then realized that Lwayo Lwayo was so bored and he introduced him to campus politics so that he can be active. He took him to the “COVENANT” Launch. It was the Presidential bid of Sam Were Were who was going for his second term. These were the days when Morara Kebaso was also strong politically in Kenyatta University.
That is how Lwayo Lwayo enjoyed the campus politics and also successful vied and was elected during his studies at Kenyatta University.
He eulogized Mathew Nyamlori as wise and humble man who knew how to fit himself in every group of people according to their age and maturity. He described him as his mentor, teacher and brother because he is the person who made him to recollect himself at the point when he was giving up.
His only pain is that, after all the suffering that Mathew Nyamlori went through, instead of enjoying the sweat of his suffering, cancer just came from nowhere and took his precious life away.
