Arsenal fans have heaped praises on Ilkay Gundogan after his comments following the 2-2 draw between Arsenal and Manchester City. The German international player said that, they need to give Arsenal the credits because they really defended well.
He added that, they expected the Arsenal players to play the way they played especially after Leandro Trossard was sent off. Ilkay Gundogan added that, they could have done better and they could have looked for other options but they failed to do that.
“It was a very emotional game between the players and the fans. Obviously, it’s a tough game and a tough opponent to play against. They made it tough for us and tried everything to get something out of here.”
“We have to give them credit for the way they defended. We could have done better in the second half like to find better solutions and be a bit more patient, we were lacking that. After the red card, they defended around the box, which is normal. They did it well and were aggressive. It was tough to attack them and find solution.” Said Ilkay Gundogan.
The sentiments of Ilkay Gundogan amazed the Arsenal fans and they said that, he is probably the only sober player at Manchester City currently.
To be honest, with the red card and the nature of Manchester City’s style of play, Arsenal had no option but to just defend the entire minutes. That is why Mikel Arteta left the attack blunt by taking off Bukayo Saka and replacing him with Ben White to bolster the defence.
Things could have somehow been different if the red card was not produced. The game could have been a very interesting one to watch. All in all, Mikel Arteta was forced to change his tactic and the players had to do what they could for them to get at least something from the Etihad Stadium.
