Junet Mohamed Dismisses Claims by NTV That Ruto’s Strategy to Abolish Vetting for North Eastern IDs is to get Votes

The Leader of the Minority in the National Assembly, honorable Junet Mohamed has dismissed the claims that were made by the Nation Media Group that, the President William Ruto’s latest decision to abolish all the mandatory vetting for identification cards for the people living in North Eastern is a strategy to get votes.

The vocal ODM legislator who has now become a defender of the government after the ODM party agreed to form a broad-based government with the Kenya Kwanza government. He said that, it was very unfortunate for NTV to air something which is as baseless as that. He said that, it is now time for the people of the North Eastern part of Kenya to also enjoy their Constitutional right to own National Identification cards.

Security Expert George Musamali also highlighted that, the abolition of the mandatory vetting may pose a big security threat in the country. He said that, this will now open more avenues for criminals to legally operate in the country because majority of them will obtain the ID Cards. He also noted that, the country will now be struggling with a huge population which may not even be Kenyans.

Political Analyst, Fanya Mambo Kinuthia also alleged that, President William Ruto decided to use that strategy so that he can garner more votes from that region in the 2027 general elections. He alleged to the journalists of Nation Media Group that, the scheme will pave way for people from the neighboring Nations to be registered as voters ahead of the 2027 polls.

President William Ruto said that, the move will enable the people of North Eastern to acquire the National identification cards with a lot of ease. He also opened an immigration centre that will allow the residents of that area to also acquire passports with a lot of ease without travelling all the way to Nairobi.
