President William Ruto really meant his words when he stated that all the government payments will be directed towards one Paybill. This was preceded by the freezing of some Paybill numbers for a couple of government entities.
All payments made using mobile money platforms will now be directed to the Government Paybill Number 222222, this is according to an announcement released by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
According to a statement released by NHIF CEO Elijah Wachira on Sunday, December 10, 2023, this action is in compliance with a presidential decision that instructed all state entities to close their playbills and redirect all payments to 222222.
The key things to note are that, any member who wishes to make payments as contributions, will be needed or required to use the Paybill Number 222222 and the Account Number NHIFM-ID Number.
For Penalties accrued because of one reason or another, the contributors will use Paybill Number 222222 and the Account Number NHIFP-ID Number.
Employers who will be making the payments for their employees will use the Paybill Number as 222222 and the Account Number as NHIFE-Eslip Number.
For the Penalties accrued, the employers will put NHIFEP-Employer Code.
“Effective immediately, all NHIF payments through mobile money platforms shall only be made through the Government Pay bill Number 222222, the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) reminds all Members and Employers,” stated Wachira.
The usage of Pay bill Number 222222 as the Government’s single payment platform was designated in the Presidential Directive and the Kenya Gazette No. 16008 of 2022, he said, saying, “This is in line with that directive that was issued earlier on.”
In November, Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau summoned Wachira and the CEOs of 17 other state-run institutions to account for their agency’s noncompliance with the executive order.
President William Ruto ordered all state agencies to move their services online and adopt 222222 as the official paybill by the end of the year during the June 30th launch of government services on e-Citizen.
Within 90 days, he mandated the shutdown of more than 1,000 Paybill lines used to collect payments for public services.
This is therefore to inform Kenyans that all payments will now be channeled to the government Paybill and they should not use the previous NHIF paybill.
