Some sad news was reported at Kaplong Girls High School in Bomet county after a total of 20 students from the institution were hospitalized after fire broke out in their institution.
The fire is reported to have razed down some 15 temporary houses where some teachers were living. Sadly, enough, one teacher was also injured and he was admitted at St. Clare’s Kaplong Hospital so that he can receive some treatment. It is believed that the fire was caused by an electric fault in one of the houses.
It was however tough to control the fire because the fire engine from Bomet county could not access the school due to the poor infrastructure leading to that school. The school later found help from officers from the Kenya Red Cross Society and the Bomet County Disaster Management Department.
The media and the parents who also wanted to access the institution after the incident happened were also barred from accessing the institution by Mr. Joham Masogha who is the Director of Education of Sotik Sub County.
His main reason of blocking the parents and the teachers is because there was a crisis meeting that was going on among the officials from the Ministry of Education, The Board of Management of Kaplong Girls and the Security officials.
The good news is that the students are out of danger. What happened is that, they inhaled a lot of smoke while they were trying to put off the fire. Some of the students even fainted because of the shock that they got.
