Samson Cherargei Orders TSC to Reinstate Sacked JSS Interns or Face the Wrath of MPs’

The Senator of Nandi County, honorable Samson Cherargei has sent a strong message to the Teachers Service Commission. He has told the Commission that it needs to reinstate the sacked JSS interns or it will face the wrath of Members of Parliament.

The JSS interns received sacking letters just after calling off their strike. They tried to inquire but they were told that since they are just mere interns, the decision is final. This happened after they were promised that they were going to be employed on Permanent and Pensionable terms in July when the new financial year kick starts.

Honorable Samson Cherargei who was speaking outside Parliament buildings said that the Teachers Service Commission should stop threatening the interns and embark on the process of employing them permanently.

He also said that the Teachers Service Commission that is led by CEO Nancy Macharia will be summoned next week if they fail to reinstate the sacked JSS interns.

According to the Teachers Service Commission, they sacked the interns based on the protests that they led. They were just fighting for their rights and therefore it is not fair to sack them yet they were exercising their rights as enshrined in the Constitution.

The Teachers Service Commission stated that they first sent show cause letters to 10, 348 JSS intern teachers and out of that number, only 9,606 JSS intern teachers responded within the specified two weeks and explained their whereabouts.

742 JSS intern teachers did not respond to the show cause letters and therefore their whereabouts were not known. The Teachers Service Commission then decided to terminate their contracts.

The Teachers Service Commission also made a clarification that only 742 JSS intern teachers were served with sack letters and not 7,357 as alleged.

Senator Samson Cherargei said that the extent that the Teachers Service Commission went was too far and they cannot sack the young patriots who were the pioneers of the Competency Based Curriculum and they have served with a lot of diligence.
