General Francis Ogolla lost his life through a plane crash and the country cannot operate without another Chief of Defense Forces. There have been some debate surrounding who should be General Francis Ogolla’s heir now that he is no longer at the helm of his position.
General Francis Ogolla broke the tribal barriers and he became the first Luo to hold that prime position. Governor James Orengo of Siaya County told the President during the burial that he should again consider the Nyanza region the way he did and appointed General Francis Ogolla as he will be seeking to look for his heir.
According to the Tonje rules, the person who is logically fit to succeed General Francis Ogolla is General Kahahari keeping in mind that he hails from the Kenya Navy.
Security Experts have stated that there are some arguments that are surrounding the face of Kenya inclusivity element when it comes to the succession of General Francis Ogolla. They argue that if another person from the Mount Kenya region will assume that position, then there may be some political tension owing to the fact that the region has held that position twice.
According to the security experts, the Mount Kenya region had produced both General Julius Karangi and General Robert Kibochi who all had hailed from the Mount Kenya region. Taking it back to the region according to them will deprive other regions from ascending to that position.
They also argue that the way the military is composed currently, there are already very many top members from the Mount Kenya region. They also quoted that Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a is the Commander of the Kenya Navy and the Nyanza and Western region do not have anybody left after General Francis Ogolla’s demise.
