PART ONE

Despite Mabesheni guy’s best efforts to act like a good Samaritan, Kaka still pursues him out of the store and refuses to forgive him because they both know business is bad. A tearful Sultana attempts to convince Kaka to stay, but he tells her that at least he has a family and that Mwanzele raised him as his own so he doesn’t feel bad about leaving. Kaka is set on leaving, and Sultana can’t seem to sway him from his plan. She points out that they saw JJ get taken by the police, and yet they both know who the real criminals are.

They encourage JJ to “make it easy on yourself” or “make his life hard there,” implying that he should be more forthcoming with information about what transpired in order to aid the inquiry. JJ begs them to pay close attention to him since he thinks it’s all his father’s plan to torture him, but they assure him that it’s not about authority. One of the officers pulls out paperwork and delivers it to JJ, who is completely taken aback.

Maria asks Bi. Salama, who appears to be deep in thought, if she thinks Sultana is in danger; Bi. Salama replies that Sultana causes her a great deal of worry every day, so Maria should go out and look for her; Bi. Salama also warns Maria against opening the door to anyone other than herself and Sultana.

Kaka tells Buya he doesn’t understand him since his life is in danger; Buya had planned to assist him acquire medication, but Kaka says he should instead call Dida and ask for help because she will be happy to hear from him. After screaming out for Kaka, Bi. Salama returns home to find not only Sultana missing, but also Kaka. Kaka is caught off guard because she departed from his home earlier.

When Sultana comes to see JJ in jail, he is surprised that the guards let her in so late. Sultana explains that she told them that JJ was her over and that she was carrying his pregnancy, but he isn’t happy to hear this because she had previously claimed that people are taking advantage of her situation, but now he knows that she was the one suing her situation to seek sympathy. He orders the guard to take her away.

If Sultana were to become ill, Maria is afraid that Bi. Salama wouldn’t know how to get her the assistance she needs. Maria is surprised to see the mabesheni guy selling at such a strange hour, as is Bi. Salama, when she answers the door and learn that someone is selling at such a time. After Maria implores the man to raise his voice, he storms out of the house and scolds her for being impolite. Maria is annoyed by the fact that she is assisting Sultana in returning to the house when he runs into her on his way back. As her mother looked on, Sultana went inside and began to cry.

PART TWO

JJ starts shouting, thinking Sultana has returned, but as he turns around he sees Dida looking downcast. She says she’s sorry and that Kaka told her about it and she couldn’t sleep, and that she’ll do all she can to help him get out of there, since it looks like no one else does, not even Sultana (who attempted to get Major to assist, but he didn’t seem to care). JJ begs him to listen to her, saying that he has nothing to do with whatever happened to Kokan and that he is certain this was all part of Major and Fatima’s plan, but that he does not want her to get involved with anything pertaining to him. He continues by saying that if Fatima sees him, she will not waste any time in making sure he is dead because her father needs aid more than he does and that he is very close by.

Kaka tells Buya that Bi. Salama would take care of him, despite Buya’s pleadings that he stay. His departure, he tells him, would be like unloading a heavy weight from Sultana’s shoulders in the event that things turned sour.

When Sultana returns home, she tells Maria and her mother that she has just left JJ, where he has refused to listen to her sobs of agony. Maria tries to console her by sharing how she, too, once fell in love with a wealthy man and then nearly lost her life as a result. After the honeymoon, she recalls being injured and crying out for Luwi as she ran for her life. Bi. Salama reassures her that everyone goes through tough times and that she is not alone. Even when Maria and Bi. Salama reassure Sultana that they would always be there for her, the latter breaks down in tears and retreats to her room.

In the ghetto, Sultana is approached by a blind youngster who wants to know where her father is, prompting Sultana to reflect on how much easier life would be if she knew her father. Sultana tries to reassure the kid that this was not her goal, but the child then asks what Sultana’s intentions are with her before vanishing and leaving Sultana once again blind and tormented by the child’s mocking laughter in her mind. She screams as she comes out of her nightmare, waking up Maria who is sleeping next to her. Salama rushes in, concerned, but Sultana reminds her, through heavy panting, that not every dream needs to be explained.

When Fatima gets up in the morning, she is concerned because Dida didn’t return home the previous night. She receives a phone call from her goon, who tells her that he has discovered the girl at Bi. Salama’s house and asks if she is certain.
