West Ham United hosted Chelsea at the London stadium for their second game of the 2023/2024 English Premier League season. This was a very tactical game and things were looking good for Chelsea in terms of how the players were playing and the quality of players who were on the pitch.
This was however far from the truth and the reality on the pitch. Tables turned against Chelsea and fate was in favor of West Ham United. James Ward-Prowse who was playing his debut for his new club did exactly the job that David Moyes bought him for.
He delivered a very brilliant corner kick and it was headed by Nayef Aguerd. This made West Ham United to open the score line. Chelsea equalized through Carney Chukwumeka. The Blues got a chance to go ahead but Enzo Fernandez missed a penalty that was saved by Alphonse Areola. The first half ended in a 1-1 draw.
The second half started on a high note and the Chelsea players did not take their chances. They were however punished by the underdogs in the game. James Ward-Prowse stood again and gave Michail Antonio a brilliant pass from nowhere and West Ham United scored the second goal.
Thungs turned worse for West Ham United in the second half. Nayef Aguerd committed a silly foul and the referee booked him for the second yellow card that translated to a red card and he was sent off. West Ham players were reduced to 10 men.
David Moyes reacted well to that red card and he sacrificed Said Benrahma for Angelo Ogbonna in order to add more strength in the backline that was affected by the red card. The players did not allow the red card to define their game but they continued to push further and even defended well against all the attack from the Chelsea players.
Moises Caicedo conceded a penalty on his debut and Lucas Paqueta did not waste any chance with it. He scored it and finished Chelsea completely by not giving the players and the fans any chance for even a draw or a comeback. The game ended 3-1 in favor of the 10-men West Ham United.
