Manchester City met Chelsea in another game in the Emirates FA Cup. This was the second game in a span of less than one week. Many people had predicted that Manchester City were going to triumph in the game because of their squad depth.
Pep Guardiola’s squad had Stefan Ortega, Kyle Walker, Manuel Akanji, Aymeric Laporte, Sergio Gomez, Bernardo Silva, Rodri, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, Julian Alvarez and Cole Palmer.
Graham Potter’s squad had Kepa Arrizabalaga, Lewis Hall, Kalidou Koulibaly, Bashir Humphreys, Trevoh Chalobah, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, Conor Gallagher, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang was not even among the substitutes.
Riyad Mahrez continued with his good run against the Blues and he opened the score line. The club got a penalty and Julian Alvarez was given the opportunity to take it. He did not disappoint but slotted in the second goal.
Kyle Walker then gave Phil Foden a brilliant pass and the young English international scored the third goal. The two teams went for the half time break when the score line was 3-0. The second half also kicked off well and the Premier League defending Champions sealed their win.
Manchester City got the second penalty and this time Riyad Mahrez took it and he did not disappoint at all. The club has now qualified for the next round and it will either play Arsenal or Oxford United. The two teams will meet on Monday night in order to play their game.. The game ended 4-0 in favor of Manchester City.
