Why Gabriel Martinelli’s Form has Dropped of Late

Arsenal has been performing very well this season and Mikel Arteta needs some round of applause for what he has transformed the club into. He has managed to make his wingers to be as lethal as the strikers.

The club is never short of goals because they can come from anywhere, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah. Gabriel Martinelli has been struggling of late despite the fact that he has also been performing well and he is one of the reasons why the club is still in position one.

The last few games he has been disastrous and it was very evident in the loss against Everton. The reason because of Gabriel Martinelli’s poor form is because he has been outnumbered by Zinchenko. The Ukranian has isolated Gabriel Martinelli by him inverting and thus focusing Arsenal’s attack mostly on Bukayo Saka’s wing.

Kieran Tierney always overlaps and this is what always gives Martinelli some strength. Zinchenko is good too and he can also play in the midfield but his versatility is what makes Gabriel Martinelli to sometimes lack the form.

When Gabriel Martinelli gets the ball, he always needs support in his wing. Zinchenko who is to help him always drops deep in the midfield and this makes Martinelli to loose the ball. He is always marked mostly by two defenders because he is a real threat and he also has the pace.

Once Gabriel Martinelli gets the ball, he always only have only one option which makes it hard for him to deliver. The only option he has is to dribble past the defenders even if they are three in number. When he gets lucky to go past them he either scores or gives an assist to another player to score.

This isolation means that when Gabriel Martinelli gets a good defence which is not shaken, the fans nay see him as poor performer even if he is trying his best within his means to try and overcome the tough defenders.

The partnership of Gabriel Martinelli and Kieran Tierney seems to work perfectly well for the Brazilian international. Leandro Trossard on the other hand seems to know how to navigate that wing well even with Zinchenko overlapping in the midfield because of his experience.

Fatigue may have also caught up with Martinelli because this is the season that he has really been consistent and played a lot of games successively without getting injured. Mikel Areta should also try and rest him for some games so that he can regain back his strength and alternate him with Leandro Trossard who has also proven that he is very lethal.

Mikel Arteta should find a way that he can revive the Brazilian’s top form so that he can continue being a part of the transformation that is going on at the club and he can continue discharging his duties so that he can continue helping Arsenal to continue pushing for the Premier League title this season after a perfect start of the season.
