Kenya had a long night at the Paris Olympics in the 5000m Final. The athletes representing Kenya, that is Beatrice Chebet and Faith Kipyegon, did their best and got the first two positions, hence winning the gold medal and the silver medal.
Faith Kipyegon was however disqualified, this is after a collision with Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia. She was disqualified for obstruction, just two laps before the end of the final finish.

Faith Kipyegon’s name, consequentially missed on the medal list. Netherlands’ Sifan Hassan was then poised to receive the silver medal. Beatrice Chebet was very shocked to see Sifan Hassan because it is like she didn’t know that it is actually Faith Kipyegon who was obstructed and not the other way round.
Team Kenya appealed the decision through Athletics Kenya. After a successful appeal, it was officially confirmed that Kenya’s appeal had been accepted and Faith Kipyegon was reinstated to the silverware position in the Women’s 5000m Final.
Faith Kipyegon’s photos while crying broke the hearts of all Kenyans and many people sympathized with her. They felt that she rightfully won the silver medal and she was being robbed what is rightfully hers.
Social media was full of words of encouragement for her. It seems that the conduct of Gudaf Tsegay is not new to her competitors. Sifan Hassan stated clearly that, she also pushed her last year.
She also sated that she does not mind if Faith Kipyegon gets her silver medal back because she rightfully won it.
Faith Kipyegon is actually a very respectful athlete and a widely celebrated one for that matter. The initial decision to disqualify her, could have really painted her image bad. She is very humble and down to earth too.
The decision could have also affected her next race that is in the 1500m. She can now walk tall and go for the gold medal in the 1500m.
