The embattled Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, honorable Mithika Linturi has received a big blow after the Speaker of the National Assembly, honorable Moses Masika Wetangula approved the impeachment motion against him in line with the fake fertilizer scandal.
The motion to impeach honorable Mithika Linturi was filed by the Member of Parliament of Bumula Constituency honorable Jack Wanami Wamboka. The Speaker acknowledged the receipt of a Notice of a special motion concerning the same.
He read it and stated that honorable Jack Wanami Wamboka was seeking a resolution of the House for dismissal of honorable Franklin Mithika Linturi as the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development on the grounds of gross violation of the Constitution or of any other law.
He went ahead to say the Legislator stated that he has serious reasons to believe that the Cabinet Secretary has committed a crime under the National Law and Gross misconduct. He confirmed that the impeachment motion was filed on 17th April 2024.
The Speaker of the National Assembly then said that he will allow the Member of Parliament of Bumula Constituency the chance to limit himself to a summary of his content, state the grounds upon which the Special motion has been made and also give the names of the members who appended their signatures in support of the Special Motion as required under Article 152 of the Constitution and Standing Order 66.
A total of 110 Members of Parliament signed and supported the Special Motion to impeach CS Mithika Linturi.
The Speaker of the National Assembly then gave directions to the clerk of the National Assembly to publish the Special Motion for dismissal of honorable Mithika Linturi in the Order Paper for 2nd May 2024.
