Mike Sonko Sheds Light on how he was Offered 50 Million Bribe Daily When he was the Governor of Nairobi County

The former Governor of Nairobi County, honorable Mike Sonko has spilt the beans and stated that he was offered 50 million bribe on a daily basis from the County Revenue Collection Centre when he was the Nairobi County boss.

Honorable Mike Sonko stated this in an interview and said that since he wanted to deal with corruption head on, he approached the then President, honorable Uhuru Kenyatta and told him about that mess and how he wanted to deal with the graft.

He said that he went to State House and told President Uhuru Kenyatta that he had been offered 50 million shillings as bribe so that he can take it as his share and he was told that it was going to come on a daily basis. He said that President Uhuru Kenyatta did not believe it and he went ahead and called honorable William Ruto who was then the Deputy President.

He said that President Uhuru Kenyatta swung into action and he contacted the Ethics and Anti-Corruption officials and some officers from the DCI who helped in recovering some millions that same day.

He said that on that same day just some minutes before 4pm, they surrounded guys and recovered 70 million shillings and the money was put in socks and paper bags. He further went ahead to say that was the main Revenue Collection Centre and there were some other centres too.

Honorable Mike Sonko added that the total amount was around 300 million but the Governor was only being offered 50 million shillings.

Honorable Mike Sonko said that he meant well for Nairobi County and he was even shocked when he was accused of corruption cases despite the fact that he was the one fighting corruption and the embezzlement of funds.

He also said that he is happy that his innocence was known and that is why the court acquitted him in most of his cases that were related to corruption.

Honorable Mike Sonko said that he really meant well for Nairobi County because he really wanted to fight corruption and clean the County.
