The President of the Republic of Kenya, honorable William Ruto has directed the Ministry of Education to postponed the reopening of schools until further notice.
This is due to the ongoing rains that have caused a lot of floods in the country. This comes just hours after the Ministry of Education released a safety plan for the reopening of schools which was scheduled to start next week.
Many parents had started complaining because it was not realistic for students to go to school on Monday yet there are places where the schools have been adversely affected by the floods and it was not going to be easy for the learners to learn.
The other concerns were that there are students who come from different parts of the country and they were not going to access the schools because there are no means of transport since their roads have been greatly affected.
There are also many families who have been displaced and there is no way that they were also expected to return to school owing to the fact that some of the families lost almost everything to the floods and they are currently just surviving on the mercies of well-wishers.
Many people also lauded the step of the President because the decision was made early enough and not late in the night on the eve of the reopening of schools as it was witnessed last week.
Parents now have the obligation to be with their children and check on them until things get well in the country.
