President William Ruto rewarded the outgoing Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Mr. Wafula Chebukati and his two counterparts, Commissioners, Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye.
They were awarded during the Jamhuri Day celebrations. Mr. Wafula Chebulati was awarded the Elder of the Order of Golden Heart (EGH). Commissioners Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye were both awarded Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS).
These are the Commissioners who agreed with the outcome of the August 2022 Presidential elections. They are the ones who defended the results that declared President William Ruto as the dully elected President of the Republic of Kenya.
The President had heaped a lot of praises on these Commissioners and it was very evident that he was going to recognize them Nationally and reward them for the peaceful election that was witnessed in the country with a lot of maturity.
All of them have served their terms and they are expected to vacate their positions next year January. This is to pave way for a new breed of Commissioners who will be recruited in order for their positions to be filled.
It seems that the IEBC will have a new look because as things stand now, the four dissenting Commissioners that is Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyangaya, Irene Masit and Francis Wanderi will not be back in that office.
A gap and vacancies will be left and it is not clear who will be running the Commission when the three Commissioner’s terms will come to an end in January 2023.
