Belgium kicked off their 2022 World Cup campaign on a high note after it thrashed Canada 1-0. Canada had a very good game bit the finishing was not that perfect. The nation also missed a penalty in the first half.
Kevin De Bpruyne was named as man of the match. He made some comments after receiving the award and he said that he does not know why he received it. According to him, he might have been given the award because of his name.
Many people rushed online in order to give their opinions on the same. Some said that the Manchester City player was not playing like the lethal Kevin De Bruyne that they know. According to them, he did not deserve the award at all in regards to his statistics of the game.
Some of the fans said that the Man of the Match award should have gone to Thirbout Courtois. They said that he was the most outstanding player and he is the one who denied Canada an opening goal by making a World class save of the penalty that was awarded.
Other fans also said that according to them, the man of the match performance could have gone to one of the Canadian players because they gave Belgium a run for their money.
They proved that they merited to be at the World Cup. They however noted that they knew that the award could have not been given a player from the losing side and therefore they had to give it to a Belgian.
