Reports reaching our desk have confirmed in a developing story that 20 people have so far been confirmed dead following the floods in Mai-Mahiu. It was reported that the floods swept several homes in Kamuchiri Village.
The Naivasha Police Commander Stephen Kirui confirmed the death of the deceased victims and he also stated that several people have also been rushed to the hospital and to be specific Naivasha hospital where they are currently receiving their treatment.
The Naivasha Police Commander Stephen Kirui also confirmed that the dam at old Kijabe burst its banks and it swept through the village where it caused the deaths and havoc to different families.
The floods also caused a lot of traffic along the Mai-Mahiu road and it also swept several vehicles which were using that route. This halted the movement along that route.
The police Commander confirmed that search operations are still ongoing and he stated that the fatalities may be more because it The people who are missing are still not known whether they are alive or they have passed on.
A rescue mission is already ongoing and there are several teams which are aiding in that operation such as the Kenya Police, the Nakuru County Disaster team, the Kenya Red Cross and the Community members.
The incident happened in the wee hours of the night and it is believed that the dam burst at 2am when people were still sleeping and it caught everybody unaware because it was an unexpected scene that was not anticipated. This is still a developing story and we will keep you posted as events unfold.
