Good News to Kenyans as They are set to Watch AFCON for Free

Kenyans received some good news after it was finally confirmed that they will watch the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)  for free without incurring any extra cost of subscribing for those live matches.

This is after the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) officially acquired the rights to broadcast the AFCON for this year, 2024. This year’s tournament is taking place in Ivory Coast.

This good news to Kenyans was confirmed by the Acting Managing Director of Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, Mr. Paul Macharia. He disclosed this in a press conference where he stated that he was delighted to unveil the acquisition of the free to air rights to bring the AFCON games live to Kenyans for free.

“I am delighted on this important occasion of unveiling the agreement for the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, acquisition of the free-to-air rights for the Africa Cup of Nations 2023,” said Macharia.

Kenyans will surely enjoy Premium content because KBC Channel 1 will broadcast all the 52 AFCON matches that will be played. The matches will also be aired in the sister station of KBC, that is Y254.

Those who cannot watch will also have the privilege of listening to the broadcasts via the 14 radio stations. Those in social media will also get coverage through the social media platforms of the stations.

The acquisition of the rights also comes with other packages which includes the rights to broadcast other regional events over the next two years, such as the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, Women’s AFCON 2024, CAF Women’s Champions League 2024, CAF Beach Soccer Championships 2024, and the CHAN 2024, along with qualifiers for AFCON 2025.
