CS Mbadi Clarifies Parents Will Pay Exam Fees From Next Year

The Cabinet Secretary of the National Treasury, honorable John Mbadi has confirmed that, parents will have to go an extra mile as from next year and pay for examination fees for the candidates who will be sitting for National examinations.

Honorable John Mbadi said that, the ten years’ waiver for the examination fees is coming to an end and they will scrap it off because it has become unsustainable due to the rising cost of top priorities in the Education sector that needs to be met.

He also said that, despite the fact that they did not allocate funds for the examinations in the budget, they are making plans to make sure that all students sit for exams this year without fail. He also added that, as from next year, the Ministry of Education will have to come up with new models that will make sure that only the children from the vulnerable families enjoy the exam waiver.

The exam waiver was introduced in the year 2016 when honorable Uhuru Kenyatta was the President and honorable Fred Matiangi was the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Education. The aim of this was to make sure that, no child was left out in doing the National examinations.

The government is currently covering the registration fee for examination for all the students that stands at 7,200 per student. The program has become unsustainable for the government because of the emerging trends that have cropped up in the Education sector.

CS John Mbadi also said that, the government is catering for the examination fee of all the students in the country including those in the private and the public schools.

He said that, it does not make sense that the government is also catering for the examination fees of the rich who can afford to pay that money without struggling any much.
