Two-time Olympic Champion Gold Medal Winner, Eliud Kipchoge broke down while he was narrating the speculations that linked him to Kelvin Kiptum’s death. He revealed this in an interview with BBC Sports Africa.
Eliud Kipchoge said that he was shocked that he was being trolled on Social Media that he is the one who led to the death of Kelvin Kiptum and he had a hand in it. He added that he received very terrifying threats after Kelvin Kiptum’s death.
According to Eliud Kipchoge, he received a lot of threats like burning of his training camp, burning of his investments in town, burning of his house and burning of his family. These threats made him to fear for his life and that of his family. The good thing is that all those were just threats and they were not executed.
People were speculating that he must have had a hand in that tragic accident that claimed the life of the young promising Kelvin Kiptum because he was the only marathoner who had shown the zeal that he could compete with the G.O.A.T and many people knew Kelvin Kiptum was going to be the successor of Eliud Kipchoge and he was going to keep the fire blazing by fitting well in his shoes.
Kelvin Kiptum was a promising athlete but his life was suddenly cut short even before enjoying the fruits of is labor. It is right that Eliud Kipchoge has finally talked about it and he has cleared the air that he never conspired with anybody to take the life of Kelvin Kiptum.
Eliud Kipchoge also added that what happened to Kelvin Kiptum and after that has made him not to trust anybody and he cannot even trust his own shadow.
He even said that the whole ordeal affected him and when he arrived in Tokyo, he did not sleep for three days and that also led to his dismal performance in the marathon where he finished in position 10.
