ArseHow West Ham United Eliminated Arsenal From the EFL Cup by 3-1 Hammering
West Ham United met Arsenal in the fourth round of the EFL Cup and David Moyes’ team showed Mikel Arteta that sometimes experience beats everything. Mikel Arteta reshuffled his squad in an anticipation that the players were going to show resilience and deliver the results that he wanted.
He rested key players like Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka. Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba. Emile Smith Rowe was highly anticipated to play after his perfect display over the weekend against Sheffield United but he did not make it to the squad. Mikel Arteta said that he got some knee injury which is now becoming a rampant issue.
The first half was very intense and the West Ham United players proved that they were not just passersby in that competition. Jarrod Bowen took a perfect corner but Ben White unfortunately headed it in his own net past Aaron Ramsdale. That own goal stood until the end of the first half.
The second half was equally packed and it seemed like David Moyes had imparted some knowledge in his players and told them that a 1-0 lead is very narrow and they need to do something.
They were more aggressive as compared to the Arsenal players and this was the driving force that they used. Nayef Aguerd gave Mohammed Kudus a brillant pass and he scored the second goal.
Jarrod Bowen continued with his good form and he scored the third goal. This finished Arsenal’s evening. Mikel Arteta tried his best and brought in his valuable players to try and salvage the situation but they did not succeed.
He substituted Oleksandr Zinchenko and replaced him with Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jorginho with Declan Rice, Leandro Trossard with Gabriel Martinelli, Reiss Nelson with Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah with Martin Odegaard.
David Moyes made only two changes in his squad. He brought in James Ward-Prowse in place of Said Benrahma and Thilo Kehrer in place of Mohammed Kudus. Arsenal got one consolation goal from Martin Odegaard who got the pass from Fabio Vieira.
The game ended 3-1 in favor of West Ham United. The club has now progressed to the quarter finals while Arsenal was eliminated from the competition.
