President William Ruto revealed that he had no plans of visiting Homabay on Tuesday. This is because he had a very busy schedule. Remember he had just come from Uganda where he met President Yoweri Museveni together with Raila Odinga. He later changed his mind and decided to visit the County after several calls from Governor Gladys Wanga.
The President said that when Governor Gladys Wanga noticed that the Head of State was not going to make it to Homabay, she took the initiative and decided to call everybody who is close to the President.
President William Ruto also added that it is very difficult to resist Governor Gladys Wanga and therefore he had no place to hide. The Homabay Governor wanted the President to just be present for just even one hour. He was expected to open the Homabay County International Investment Conference.
The visit was a very unusual one due to his tight schedule. He was also expected to welcome the Prime Minister of Ethiopia that same evening in Nairobi. During his speech, he used the microphone reserved for Governor Gladys Wanga.
The visit was a rushed one and President Ruto’s arrival at Tom Mboya University was not like the other ones, he was driven in a Toyota Prado which just had a standard number plate. His security details were also not present at the University grounds.
The President while delivering his speech, applauded Governor Gladys Wanga for putting Homabay as a friendly County where someone can invest. He also thanked Governor Gladys Wanga for being very proactive to make sure that development is realized in her County.
President William Ruto however apologized for being there in a short time and he promised to make another visit soon. Remember this was the fifth time the President was visiting Homabay County since he became the President.
