The four IEBC officials who were caught on Sunday by residents in Homabay county have finally been shown the door by Mr. Wafula Chebukati. Reports that reached the media indicated that the commission reached the agreement after the matter was brought to their attention.
It was reported that a meeting was held in the home of one of the Aspirants in Riat Village in Kanyikela ward which is found in Ndhiwa constituency. The meeting had two aspirants, one Presiding Officer, two Deputy Presiding Officers and one clerk.
They were unmasked by the villagers and then taken straight to Ndhiwa police station for further interrogation. It is not yet clear what they were discussing because they did not disclose it to the public.
The four officials have finally been stripped off their duties and able and capable officials will be named to replace them. It is against the law for the IEBC officials to conspire with the aspirants with just few hours remaining to the general elections.
According to the residents in that area, the IEBC officials could have been plotting a way in which they could use to manipulate the elections and rig it in favor of the aspirants. The IEBC is an independent body and therefore the officials were not expected to be seen in any private meeting with any official.
Kenyans should now be very vigilant so that the elections can be conducted freely and in a fair manner. Above all, everybody should maintain peace during and after this election period because we are all brothers and sisters and we will still need each other.
