The teargas Mondays may have been introduced back according to what was witnessed outside the IEBC offices at Anniversary Towers on Monday 26th September 2022. Police officers lobbed teargas canisters at the Azimio supporters in order to disperse them since they were protesting.
They were protesting the interdiction and the ouster of Ruth Kulundu who is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the IEBC. She was interdicted at a meeting that was attended by the three commissioners who upheld the Presidential elections. The reason behind her interdiction was misconduct and insurbordination.
Some of the notable legislators who were dispersed by the Police using teargas are honorable Tom Kajwang who is the Member of Parliament of Ruaraka constituency, Amos Mwago of Starehe constituency, Mark Mwenje of Embakasi West constituency and Godfrey Otsotsi who is the Senator of Vihiga county.
Honorable TJ Kajwang said that the Deputy CEO was interdicted unlawfully and therefore her dismissal holds no waters. He said that if at all it was a genuine disciplinary matter, then there should have been a very big elaborate procedure on how the matter should have been resolved.
They said that the Commission should reinstate the deputy CEO and failure to which, the Commission should hold the CEO, honorable Marjan Hussein Marjan accountable and he should be able to show and prove to the whole world that he will live by the values of the Public Service.
The reason that was given for her interdiction was that she was linked to the four commissioners who rejected the Presidential poll results and she also questioned the decision that was arrived at to suspend the Gubernatorial elections in Kakamega and Mombasa counties.
