Kenyans who are still mourning the death of Kelvin Kiptum have been thrown into another deep mourning after it was confirmed that another athlete lost his life again after Kelvin Kiptum’s burial. It was reported that Charles Kipsang died at the Cameroon Mountain race.
Further reports indicated that he collapsed just shortly after crossing the finish line in the Senior Men category. Medical practitioners tried their best to revive him but it was too late. He was a 32-year-old athlete. He had gone there to represent Kenya alongside other 19 athletes from the country.
He is not a new member in that race and therefore it is still not yet confirmed what could have caused his death. Reports indicate that this was Charles Kipsang’s fourth appearance in the Mount Cameroon race of Hope. Therefore, it cannot be said that he was a newbie in the game.
The Mount Cameroon race of Hope was the 29th edition. It was reported that Charles Kipsang led for a better part of the race. He then stopped and picked up from where he left. He finally managed to finish the race at the 16th position.
It is very sad because he died after just finishing that race. He collapsed at the Molyko Stadium. It was also reported that the South West Governor by the name of Okalia Bilai confirmed that when they had left the stadium together with the Minister, they were informed that Kipsang had collapsed. This is very sad indeed because he was a promising talent.
The body has already been taken to the Buea mortuary in Cameroon. This is a very sad news indeed for Kenyans and the athletics community at large.
