The people of Malawi have been thrown into deep mourning after President Lazarus Chakwera confirmed that his Vice President, Saulos Chilima and nine others who were on board with him in a plane are no more after losing their lives in a plane crash.
The plane that was carrying the Vice President, disappeared in the radars of the airport controllers on Monday morning and it was announced that the plane went missing.
It is however sad that the plane was found but there were no survivors in the plane. All the occupants were declared dead. Their remains are currently being ferried to Lilongwe.
President Lazarus Chakwera broke the news of the death of Vice President Saulos Chilima and the nine others after the United States offered military aircraft to help in search and the rescue of the plane that was carrying them.
The Vice President was using the Dornier 228 military plane and the remains were discovered in the Chikangawa Forest. The rescue team tried their best but their efforts were not enough to rescue the occupants of the plane because it is like they died on the spot when the plane crashed.
The government had made a Press Release prior to the announcement of the death and the Press Release read that the Malawi Defense Force Aircraft that left Lilongwe carrying the Vice President and nine other occupants failed to make its scheduled landing at Mzuzu International Airport.
President Lazarus Chakwera was informed of the development and it forced him to cancel his scheduled departure for the Bahama and ordered all the regional and national agencies to conduct an immediate search and rescue operation so as to locate their whereabouts.
It is however sad that the news that came from the search was not a good one because the republic of Malawi has now lost its Vice President and nine other people due to a plane crash.
