Raila Odinga’s AU bid has led to the re-emergence of some of the ODM leaders who had taken a low profile after the former Prime Minister lost the 2022 general elections to President William Ruto.
There is now a scramble for the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) because if at all, honorable Raila Odinga will be going for the Chairperson of the African Commission, then he will be forced as dictated by the law to leave local politics.
He must therefore choose his successor who will be the Head of the Orange Democratic Party (ODM). The party is currently having two politicians who are deputizing him and they are the ones who have been poised to take over the leadership.
The two Deputies are the former Kakamega Governor, honorable Wycliffe Oparanya and the former Mombasa Governor, honorable Ali Hassan Joho. All of them want to succeed honorable Raila Odinga.
Their scramble for the party has drawn a battle ground and different politicians have already started aligning themselves strategically.
The following are the politicians who have openly come out and are supporting honorable Wycliffe Oparanya:
- Honorable Oburu Oginga
- Honorable Edwin Sifuna
- Honorable Opiyo Wandayi
- Honorable Simba Arati
- Honorable Timothy Bosire
- Honorable Catherine Omanyo
- Honorable Elsie Muhanda
The following are the politicians who have openly come out and are supporting honorable Ali Hassan Joho:
- Honorable Junet Mohamed
- Honorable John Mbadi
- Honorable Babu Owino
- Honorable Ldama Ole Kina
- Honorable Steward Madzayo
- Honorable Fatuma Masito
- Honorable Ahmed Abudllahi
Honable Raila Odinga had earlier stated that the two politicians are capable of leading the ODM ship and the members should not be afraid because he will leave them in the hands of capable leaders who have been in the party long enough and they know how to run the party.
It is still not very clear who honorable Raila Odinga will choose to lead the ODM party or whether they will de democratic or come to a concensus.
