The Governor of Mombasa County, honorable Abdulswamad Nassir and the Senator of Nairobi County, honorable Edwin Sifuna, are expected to take over the leadership of the Orange Democratic Movement as Deputy Party Leaders.
This is after the former two deputy party leaders, that is honorable Hassan Joho and honorable Wycliffe Oparanya, were appointed by President William Ruto as Cabinet Secretaries in the broad based government of National Unity.
They have been selected so that there can be a smooth transition in the leadership of the party. The two leaders are also expected to spearhead the party if honorable Raila Odinga will succeed and win the seat of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission.
They are expected to be unveiled today during the Central Management Committee Meeting. It seems that the party has also resolved to maintain the regional balance that was already set in the party. Honorable Hassan Joho was coming from the Coastal region while honorable Wycliffe Oparanya was from the Western Region.
Honorable Abdulswamad Nassir is also from the Coastal region and honorable Edwin Sifuna is from the Western region. This will now not bring any wrangles on whether one region has been robbed off their seat.
This also comes just days after the ODM party changed its leadership in the National Assembly. Honorable Opiyo Wandayi who was the Leader of the Minority, handed over his powers to honorable Junet Mohamed who was serving as the Minority Whip.
Honorable Junet Mohamed left his Minority Whip vacant and it was given to honorable Millie Odhiambo. This however brought some problems with the other Azimio La Umoja One Kenya affiliate parties.
The ODM party defended itself and said that they are the party with the majority of the seats, and therefore, what they did was to just replace their officials because those were positions that were held by the ODM party.
