Residents of Kivumbini in Nakuru County engaged police officers in running battles after they staged a protest while demanding to know the whereabouts of a local fisherman who went missing under circumstances that are very unclear.
The police fired several tear gas canisters and unfortunately, they lobbied the tear gas canisters near Kimathi Secondary School. The students who were in their school compound became victims of circumstances after they inhaled the tear gas.
Several students collapsed and went unconscious. Well-wishers stormed the school and they started the process of helping the Management of the school to rush the students to the nearby Health facilities so that they can get urgent medical attention.
The students were rushed to the Langalanga Sub County hospital where they got the medical assistance.
The students fainted on the fourth day of the protests that are being led by locals of Kivumbini, Manyani and Flamingo Estates in Nakuru County. They said that they want justice for Brian Odhiambo who according to eye witnesses, was arrested by Kenya Wildlife Service Officers.
Brian Odhiambo was allegedly arrested for encroaching the protected Lake Nakuru National Park illegally. The residents have not heard anything from him since he was arrested and that is why tension was so high and they reported that they will protest until the officers produce Brian Odhiambo.
The protesters said that, if the authorities do not produce one of their own, they will not relent and they will even go as far as trespassing the protected Lake Nakuru National Park. True to their word, they even went ahead and set part of park ablaze at the Lima ya Ugali area.
It is this incident that angered the KWS officers and they were forced to use tear gas canisters to disperse the protesters from committing further damage. This is how the students got themselves in what was not meant to be theirs.
