PART ONE
Kaka catches Buya with his phone in his hand, takes it, and Dida begins scolding him for trying to cause rivalry between them; he asks her to be patient with him because he doesn’t know what he’s done, but she explains that he didn’t say a word when he called her and hasn’t been picking up her calls, leading her to believe that he was with his side chick. He tries to tell her there was a problem and he thought it would be best to call her later, but she doesn’t believe him. After he tells her that JJ was arrested because of Kokan’s disappearance, she abruptly hangs up.
While standing next to Ua at the kennel, Major pulls out his hip flask and asks, “Are you tired of living here?” If she answers in the affirmative, he demands that she put an end to her episodes and promise that this was the last time she went crazy. They then return to their pre-marriage lifestyle, because Major loves Ua so much and wants to show her how much he cares by not marrying anyone else. After seeing Fatima return, Major enters the house to greet her. When Fatima drinks from Major’s hip flask and announces her joy at the news that JJ has been arrested, Major frowns and takes the flask back, glaring at her.
JJ tries to explain to the police that he was at Kokan’s and that he and Kokan got into a fight, but that he left Kokan okay after some villagers came to the rescue, but the officers are in a hurry and don’t want to hear him out. The police believe he attempted to kill Kokan because he had previously failed to kill anyone else. The officers order him to remove his shoes, wallet, and belt.
When Dida came downstairs, she found her mom and Major giggling and drinking. When Fatima inquires as to her whereabouts, Fatima tells her mother to be quiet because the matter is none of her business. Fatima then turns to Major and asks if he knows that JJ has been arrested, assuming that he won’t be so cool under pressure. Major says he didn’t spend his money educating a thug and that he should rot in jail because the doctor he raised would have been at the hospital, and Fatima responds that they are aware of it but that everyone should bear their own cross.
Sada, as Mr. Halid looks over the papers, reflects on how she always assumed her late father disapproved of her and how she always believed she was cursed. She then declares that it was finally her time to rule and that Major would have to go through the same humiliation she had. Suddenly, Dida calls to tell her that JJ has been arrested and is being held on suspicion of kidnapping Kokan, and that his father couldn’t care less.
Kaka tells Buya that he has had enough of him and that, now that he knows he doesn’t have any relatives, he can let anyone into his house. Buya tries to explain himself, but Kaka tells him to shut up because Dida has already said everything and Buya has proven that he can’t be trusted in any way. He tells Buya that JJ has seen Maria’s face and remembered it, so Buya must be involved; furthermore, JJ may be questioned and may implicate Buya in Maria’s whereabouts. He slams his fist against the wall in exasperation.
Officers take JJ in for questioning; he asks them why he has anything to do with Kokan’s disappearance; they tell him he must confess to everything or spend the next year in jail while they investigate; he begs for his phone, saying he needs to get in touch with someone, but they refuse, saying that only his father can give orders; this news shocks JJ, given that his father is the one who initially reported the case.
PART TWO
After waking up in the hospital, Maria runs away and finds herself lost in Mombasa. She sneaks into a house where chickens are being transported and takes some clothes off a line before being spotted and pursued by a mob; she escapes and makes her way to the ghetto, where she changes and tells herself that it’s okay if this is the end, since she’s already lost the man she loved and the child they were raising. She sobs as she tells the story to Bi. Salama, who consoles her because she thought Mombasa was where she would find her destiny. Despite everything that has happened, Sultana comes out of her room and her mother asks her where she was going. Sultana tells her that Maria was the one being looked for and not her and that she was just going to relieve the stress she has been feeling.
When Asiya is late in bringing them a drink, Fatima scolds and insults her before chasing her away like a dog. Dida overhears them and leaves the room in disappointment, but not before she hands over the bottle and explains that she bought it to help them celebrate the fact that he was missing out on a lot of fun in his marriage.
Kaka leaves the door open as he packs, worrying Buya; Sultana enters, and Kaka explains that he is getting ready to leave; Sultana is surprised; Kaka explains that he has to leave soon because he might end up regretting not leaving sooner. Before he leaves, she wants to have a quick chat with him. A knock at the door cuts off their conversation, and they both start to panic. Kaka answers the door, only to find Fatima’s goon standing there. He tells the man that he doesn’t have any cash on hand right now, but the goon continues to pound on the door and insists that he can come back another time to collect the payment. Kaka threatens to beat up the goon because the latter claims to know that Kaka owns a house and that he was hiding something there. Buya, curious as to who it could be, sends Sultana to the door to find out. She walks outside to inquire about Kaka’s condition and the thug’s reaction.
