Sad news has engulfed Sindo Trading Centre which is found in Suba South Constituency in Homabay County after three people lost their lives due to floods that have been witnessed in that area as a result of the heavy down pour of rain.
It was reported that a woman and two children who are aged between 5 and 8 years old lost their lives because of the floods. This happened while they were on their way to Sindo Town Market.
The sad news was confirmed by the Chief of the area, Chief Eliud Odeka who confirmed that the floods came from Sumba, Kisaku and Rang’awa hills and the floods came as a result of heavy rains. He said that the rains caught people unaware and it rained for like one hour.
Chief Eliud Odeka also said that apart from claiming the three lives, the floods also caused a lot havoc and some of the marram roads in the area were also swept away. The residents helped in retrieving the dead bodies.
He also confirmed that more than 100 rental houses and business premises were destroyed in Sindo Town and at least 200 families have been affected by the Sunday floods. Some of the livestock were also affected and it is believed that they died and then swept away the floods.
The Commissioner of Homabay County, urged the residents of the county to be very vigilant and move out of the areas which are prone to floods because the Meteorological Department had warned that more rains would be noticed in Homabay County.
