What was Witnessed as Manchester City Thrashed Manchester United 2-1 to Win the FA Cup

Manchester City met Manchester United in the Emirates FA Cup final at the Wembley Stadium. The two Managers named very strong teams for this encounter because they all wanted the trophy. Pep Guardiola however surprised many people when he named his second goalkeeper Stefan Ortega ahead of Ederson despite the fact that he was fit.

Pep Guardiola had justified his selection because he is the one who has played all the FA Cup matches and there was no need of shortchanging him in the final game after managing to lead the team all the way.

The first half started on a very high note. Ilkay Gundogan took only 13 seconds and he scored a screamer. He was given the assist by Kevin De Bruyne. This lit up the stadium and it set the momentum for the game. Jack Grealish caught the ball inside the penalty area and after the intervention of the VAR, Manchester United was awarded a penalty.

Bruno Fernandes stepped up and he scored the equalizing goal. This made things level for the two teams. The first half ended 1-1 and it was the Managers turn to talk to their players to come up with a winning strategy.

The second half started on a very high note and Manchester City came back very strong. Kevin De Bruyne gave Ilkay Gundogan another brilliant pass and the German international player scored the second goal of the game.

Erik ten Hag made some changes in his squad and replaced Christian Eriksen with Alejandro Garnancho, Jadon Sancho with Wout Weghorst and Victor Lindelof with Scott Mc Tominay. Pep Guardiola also made only three changes.

He substituted Kevin De Bruyne and replaced him with Phil Foden, Jack Grealish with with Nathan Ake and Kyle Walker with Aymeric Laporte. The game finally ended 2-1 and Manchester City lifted the Emirates FA Cup trophy through the help of the club captain, Ilkay Gundogan who showed his leadership skills.
