This is good news to the JSS intern teachers because, their allocation which was scrapped off and went down with the Finance Bill was reinstated in the Supplementary Appropriation Bill.

The 46,000 JSS interns can now smile because their hard work and resilience will finally pay. They have been handling the Junior Secondary School students while receiving just stipend.

They will now smile all the way to the bank after their confirmation. The good thing is that, they will be confirmed on permanent and pensionable basis just like the other teachers who are employed by the Teachers Service Commission.

The JSS intern teachers sometime back this year, staged a protest and they wanted the government to confirm them into Permanent and Pensionable basis. They even threatened to disrupt learning in the learning institutions.

Some of the JSS intern teachers were even given show cause letters for not showing up at work. This was later revoked after it caused a lot of uproar, that they were not going to be confirmed because of misconduct.

They defended themselves and stated that, they were only fighting for their rights. The Court also gave the Teachers Service Commission a major blow, this is after it ruled that, it is illegal to employ teachers who have TSC Number as interns.

The court stated that, the policies of TSC does not allow any teacher wo has a TSC number to be an intern. The court ruled that, the interns should be teachers who are still ongoing with their training and not those who have completed their studies, graduated and also gotten a TSC Number.
