How Martin Odegaard has Transformed the Bad Luck Associated With Arsenal’s Captaincy

Arsenal is one of the clubs where leader like a team captain has a lot of pressure to deliver and guide the team in the right direction and in the right trajectory. The club has had issues with its Captains in recent past.

Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie both left the club under unclear circumstances when they just hit their peak after being nurtured by the club. Many fans up to date still say that the two captains left Arsenal when the club needed them most and this has even made some of them to erase the memories that they created at the club.

Thomas Vermaelen and Per Mertesacker were also good leaders who led from the back but they were injury prone. This did not even allow them to render their services well to the club. They were most of the time injured and this forced Arsene Wenger during his time to gamble with the defence.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang after becoming the darling of the fans and even winning the golden boot award alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane ended his Arsenal career on a very wrong note.

He was constantly accused by the Manager for not behaving as a leader and setting a bad example to the young Arsenal squad that Mikel Arteta was using to build his project. Remember Unai Emery gave Pierre Emerick Aubameyang the captaincy after the scuffle that Granit Xhaxa who was the then captain had with the fans when he was substituted in one of the matches.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang left Arsenal unceremoniously just like Laurent Koscienly despite the fact that they had rendered very good services.

Mikel Arteta trusted Martin Odegaard and gave him the Captaincy despite his young age. Many people did not believe in him because they thought that he was just bought from Real Madrid and there are other senior players whom he found in the club including homegrown players.

He is a cool, calm and collected player but very intelligent both on and off the pitch. He took the challenge and he has been able to break that bad luck that has always been associated with the Arsenal Captaincy.

Martin Odegaard has been very brilliant and he was also named the player of the season in the just concluded season. He has managed to lead the young players to a point where Arsenal has become a major threat to Manchester City in the Premier League.

He also led his team to the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League after a very long period of time without featuring in that competition and reaching that level.
