How Mikel Arteta’s Tactics Helped Arsenal to Thrash PSG 2-0

The much anticipated Champions League game against Arsenal and PSG finally ended in a 2-0 victory for Arsenal. Mikel Arteta has managed to create a beast out of the Arsenal players. They are no longer afraid of any team.

Mikel Arteta named an unchanged first team from the one that beat Leicester City over the weekend. Leandro Trossard continued with his good form and he is the one who set a good pass for Kai Havertz header that scored the first goal.

Bukayo Saka then scored a spectacular goal from a set piece and this gave Arsenal a good lead as they were heading to the first half break. The first half ended 2-0 in favor of the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta took a different approach in the second half and his tactics worked for him. He took a defensive approach and it worked in his favor. Arsenal were majorly defending while holding possession in the second half.

He even substituted Jurrien Timber at the start of the second half and replaced him with Jakub Kiwior. This is not because he had a bad game, but because he had felt something and he did not want to strain him because he had just come from a long term injury and he has also played a lot of games of late.

Mikel Arteta also substituted Thomas Partey and gave Mikel Merino his maiden debut for the Gunners. He later substituted Leandro Trossard and brought in Gabriel Jesus who equally has some defensive tactics.

Towards the end of the game, Mikel Arteta weakened Arsenal’s forward line and substituted Bukayo Saka who was the Captain of the day. He however strengthened the defence and brought in Myles Lewis-Skelly.

The young lad understood his assignment very well and he delivered as was expected. Arsenal managed to hold PSG to a 2-0 win. David Raya also kept his second clean sheet in the Champions League.
