Kenyan Couple Staying in Australia Hold Koito Live on Zoom Meeting

The advancement in Technology has really made the world to become a global village because anything can be conducted online either through Google Meet or Zoom.

Kenyans were treated to rare occasion where a couple living in Australia conducted their Koito through a zoom meeting. Audrey Chemutai and Ian Churman who both had busy schedules could not travel back to Kenya and hold their Koito as tradition demands.

Koito is the name of the dowry negotiation in the Kalenjin Community. It is like a wedding ritual and the dowry has to be negotiated for the lady to be released and allowed to get married to the man of his choice.

They looked for alternatives after realizing that they all had busy schedules amid their works abroad. They decided to stay back in Australia but successfully planned for their event despite being away and it turned out well.

The couple arranged everything and on their special day, people gathered in Uasin Gishu County as they joined them online through a Zoom Meeting. People turned up and the event was executed successfully.

The Koito ceremony lasted for two hours and it was very colorful and it even had four guest artists from the Kalenjin community who were invited to grace the occasion.

Ian Churman revealed that the Koito was very successful and organized an engagement party in Australia as they watched how things unfolded at the home of Audrey. Their engagement lasted for five hours at Audrey’s home where her parents are.

The couple were represented back at home with their friends and Ian even admitted that people got confused because all of them were in Australia. He was represented by the son of Governor Jonathan Bii of Uasin Gishu County while Audrey was represented by her friend who is known as Sharon.
