Mikel Arteta and Edu Vindicated for Signing Riccardo Calafiori Instead of a Striker

Mikel Arteta and Edu Gasper have finally been vindicated for signing Riccardo Calafiori who is another defender instead of focusing their energy in looking for a striker who will help the club in converting the chances to goals.

Riccardo Calafiori was a subject of interest from Juventus, Real Madrid and another Premier League club but he said that he only wanted to join Arsenal because of the project that Mikel Arteta is currently running in the club.

Arsenal is currently finalizing on the deal and there have been agreements on many aspects of the deal. Riccardo Calafiori has also been left out of the pre-season squad for Bologna.

Some fans criticized Edu Gasper and Mikel Arteta for buying yet another defender when they want a striker. The season has not even started but Arsenal have already encountered the first injury. Takehiro Tomiyasu was left in London after encountering yet another knee injury.

This news has vindicated Mikel Arteta and the Director Edu Gasper because they are looking for a strong squad depth. Takehiro Tomiyasu’s injury will not even scare Arsenal because there are players who will cover the positions that he is playing including Riccardo Calafiori.

Edu Gasper has been scouting for some good talent and it seems that he wanted to first strengthen the defence which was the best performing department last season before he bolsters the squad in the other departments.

Arsenal really need a striker and it is anticipated that the club will seal the sale of Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson in order to get some funds that can get a very good striker who can fit Mikel Arteta’s style of play and one who can easily adapt to the Premier League or one who has already adapted to the Premier League.

The fans should relax first and wait for the signing of a midfielder and a striker who will bring the change that is required in the club.
