Gareth Southgate named a provisional squad of 33 players but he only needed 26 players for the EURO 2024 Competition. He was forced to trim his squad and he made a drastic decision that axed a total of 7 players.
The players who were not lucky to make the cut are James Trafford, Jarrad Branthwaite, Jarell Quansah, Curtis Jones, James Maddison, Jack Grealish and Harry Maguire who has a calf injury.
James Maddison has just not been very lucky with the England National team all the way from his prime times at Leicester City. He was also very brilliant for Tottenham Hotspurs but all his efforts were not enough to earn him a call to the National team.
Harry Maguire on the other hand has been a constant figure in that defense and he seems to have mastered the art of playing well for his country. He is also a sure starter and therefore he has left a void in his position and Gareth Southgate will be looking for someone who he can pair John Stones with.
Jack Grealish on the other hand to be honest, did not merit to even make it to the squad. He has not been having much game time and his influence could have still not helped. His other team mates like John Stones, Kyle Walker and Phil Foden will help the England squad to boost their winning mentally.
Jarrad Branthwaite was also just an unlucky player because he could have perfectly blended well in the defence now that Harry Maguire is not there. Otherwise he will leave to fight another day. He was very instrumental for Everton and made sure that the club was not relegated even after all the points deductions that they had.
Let us hope that the players who were selected will perfectly perform well. By the way congratulations to Crystal Palace because it is the club that has the most number of players in the England squad. It has a total of four players.
