Accidents have become so rampant in the country and it is even hard to predict what will come next. One just have to pray when travelling because things are not looking good at all in our roads nowadays.
Another road accident involving five vehicles was reported on Monday night at Salama area along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
A total of 10 people among them a 2-year-old child were confirmed dead. Nine bodies were taken to Sultan Amud Sub-County hospital when they were already dead while the 2-year child who was in a very critical condition succumbed to death while receiving treatment.
12 people who were also in very critical conditions were admitted for treatment and some of them were transferred to Makindu hospital. This was confirmed by Dr. Jane Mwende who is the Medical Superintendent at Sultan Amud sub county hospital.
The police officers from the Salama police station who went to contain the situation said that they retrieved four bodies immediately but the other five bodies were discovered that they were trapped in the wreckage. They tried their best but the process was affected by the heavy rains that were witnessed in that area.
The police officers also said that the accident was caused by a lorry which was heading to Mombasa. The driver of the lorry did not keep his direction and then he abruptly turned right and it immediately collided with a matatu and the matatu was thrown to another vehicle and that is how the circle moved on and made five vehicles to be involved.
