EPISODE WRITTEN UPDATE PART 1 FOR SULTANA, AIRING ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 20, 2023
Before Babu wakes up, Mwanzele steals an envelope containing his medication and sneaks out of the house. He then hides the packet beneath a drum in case Babu returns. Mwanzele doesn’t want to even hear Zuu’s name spoken, so he asks if he has seen Zuu since he heard her screams for help some time ago. With no one to talk to, Babu is forced to ponder Major’s decision to punish the entire hamlet and to question if Sada was successful in her purpose.
Sada tells JJ she can’t return just yet since she is so close to achieving her goals and things back home are too chaotic right now. Sada was right to predict that Fatima would start acting like the owner of the house in no time.
Mwanzele, tears streaming down his face, sets the medications and the sheet of paper on the table, pulls out his phone, and dials Bi. Salama to offer his sincere condolences for any harm he may have caused them and to accept his mistakes. It’s unclear to Bi. Salama what he’s trying to convey, so she’s bewildered. He tells her he has to leave and asks only that she look after Zuu and express his love for her.
Sada buys a coconut from three young men and asks them for directions to Halid’s home; the young guys kindly assist her and show her the way. Young man overjoyed by Sada’s generous gift of cash.
When Asiya returns to the mansion, Major immediately approaches her, and the two of them head outside to talk while Fatima listens in. Major inquires as to the current state of affairs in the village, and whether or not Babu still poses a threat to him; however, Asiya informs him that there are much bigger problems, as it is said that he paid Mwanzele to dig up Maneno’s grave; Major finds this ridiculous, as he cannot imagine how the presence of Maneno’s dead body could be of any use to him.
Even though Sada is getting agitated because they appear to be traveling in circles, the young man insists that she should continue to follow him since he knows the way.
Fatima doesn’t think it’s a coincidence that Maneno’s grave was the one her thugs dug up. She had to find out the truth because she believes Buya and the girl are in the area of the village. Asiya starts to complain that Major isn’t treating her with the respect she deserves, but she breaks into a broad grin when he tells her that whatever she wishes for would come true if she only says it.
After Mwanzele, Bi. Salama, and Zuu saw that he had taken the pills and locked himself in the house, Kaka climbed the house and unlocked the door. Kaka sees the letter next to his father, receives it, and is still dumbfounded after Bi. Salama and Zuu make Mwanzele vomit the medicines.
Dida wonders where her mother was going as she runs into her as she rushes out of the house.
Bi. Kaka has been unusually quiet, and Salama asks him why; however, he seems stunned, so Zuu takes the paper from him and reads aloud the news that Mwanzele is sterile. Bi. Salama tries to reassure Kaka that it doesn’t matter, and she even offers to help him stand up, but Kaka walks away, leaving the two of them in disbelief.
When the young man and Sada get to Halid’s house, they discover a crowd inside; Sada yells angrily because she can’t believe all her hard work has been for naught now that Mr. Halid is dead.
Fatima leaves to shop for necessities.
Mwanzele thanks his wife for the water and attempts to explain, but Zuu tells him to be quiet for now since he needs to rest; they can talk about it later.
Kaka returns home befuddled and shaken; Buya recognizes his distress and urges him to open up to him as a member of the family, but Kaka instead storms out.
Maria calms down Bi. Salama by bringing her a drink of water, and then Kaka arrives to their house, asking where they can hide Buya now that he has decided to travel to the city. After learning that Kaka was present, Sultana begins to behave strangely, as Maria observes.
When Sada sees Mr. Halid flipping through an old photo album, she pulls out a picture of herself to double-check, and he nods his head to confirm that it is really him in the picture.
