Arsenal started the 2022/2023 season on a very high note. The club gave the fans one of their best seasons ever after Arsen Wenger’s departure. The club led the Premier League table for the longest time ever and the club gave Manchester City a run for their money.
There are however some blunders that the club did that made it to bottle the Premier League title. First of all, the club did not fully invest in the squad depth. This is one key area that made the Gunners to lose the League.
William Saliba exposed this when he got injured. Mikel Arteta had to try two different defenders in order to fit in his shoes. Rob Holding and Jakub Kiwior were all given the opportunity to try and cover that position. They all proved that the shoes of William Saliba were too large to fit in.
Mikel Arteta later had to take Ben White back to the central defence. This shows that the club does not have reliable players who can be brought in times of crisis to help out. This is something that the Technical Director should work on and bring in more experienced players who can cope up with all the competitions that the club will be involved in.
Mikel Arteta is also to partly be blamed on the woes of the Gunners. The Manager sometimes lost the most important games that he could have easily won by putting some players who were not up to the task and using the wrong formation depending on the strengths of the opponent teams.
Mikel Arteta also sometimes left players who were fatigued on the pitch. There are a couple of times Bukayo Saka was looking fatigued but he kept on playing him despite the fact that there were players on the bench who could help him out like Reiss Nelson.
The players also played some role in bottling the Premier League. There are games that they left themselves to be bullied by the opponent players from teams like Southampton, Nottingham Forest and even Everton.
The fear of Manchester City also made the players to fear the Champions despite the fact that the players are also just ordinary players. This fear should first be dealt with and the club should invest on more quality backup players who can challenge for the Premier League title.
Despite all those, the club scored 88 goals and this is the highest number of goals that Arsenal has ever scored in a single season. It even surpassed the 87 goals that were scored by the invincibles in the 200/42005 Premier League season.
