The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has issued new guidelines for the recruitment of Supervisors and Invigilators who will oversee the 2024 KCSE National examinations.
The main aim is to enhance transparency in the examinations. They have urged the Supervisors, invigilators and the examination centre managers to declare their interest in the examination centres that they have been posted to before the start of the examinations.
It is only the secondary school teachers who will be allowed to be supervisors and invigilators. They must all be registered in KNEC’s CP2 System and that is the system that will guide them. This is different to the other years where only the Supervisor was from the Secondary schools while the invigilators were from Primary Schools.
Supervisors and invigilators will also not be assigned to the same examination centre for the entire period of examination. The Supervisors will be moved on a weekly basis. They will then be required to make handover notes for their successors to have a look at.
Another guideline is that; no supervisor or invigilator will be posted in an examination centre that they have worked at for the last two years. They will all be posted to new examination centres that they have never worked at before.
For every 10 students, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has requested that there should be one invigilator.
The Supervisors and Invigilators will also be required to report on a daily basis to their examination centres and they will be required to fill a daily roster or register. This will be under the Supervision of the Examination Centre Managers.
The hosted centres will also have their own centre managers and the hosting centre manager, will have the mandate of collecting and returning the examination materials from the designated containers.
These measures have been taken so as to curb the exam cheating and exam irregularities that may be witnessed during the examination period.
