Ugandan athlete Rebecca Cheptegei has lost her life at the Moi Teaching and Refferal Hospital in Eldoret after succumbing to burn injuries as a result of fire attack by her lover.
She was admitted at the ICU but she has not made it alive. Investigations revealed that, her boyfriend poured petrol on her and then set her body ablaze. She has died at a very young age of only 33 years old before accomplishing all her dreams.
This comes just a day after her father, Mzee Joseph Cheptegei pleaded for justice for his daughter while she was still battling for her life in the ICU. Her father revealed that, he was depending on her daughter because she is the one who was taking care of them including even paying school fees for other siblings.
The father revealed that, her daughter is an athlete for Uganda but she always train in Kenya. He added that, after seeing that the expenses were so high, she bought land and built a house where she was living with her two children.
He revealed that they were lovers but they later disagreed and separated, the guy was now living with his wife and children. He revealed that, the man went and bought petrol of about 5 litres and timed when the children went to church.
He went and got in the house where the chicken were staying. When Rebecca Cheptegei went to clean that room, the man poured petrol on her and when the lady noticed that, she told her sister to give her some blanket, he then tripped the lady and took a panga and chased the sister. After that, he set her body ablaze.
The doctors revealed that, Rebecca Cheptegei sustained more than 80 percent of the burns. It is very unfortunate that she has not survived after that incident.
