Students from Butere Girls were scheduled to perform their controversial play “Echoes of War” at 7am after battling it out in the corridors of Justice with their lawyers. The students arrived at the Venue and after their bus entered in, the police officers barred the media from taking Live Coverage of the Play.
The students went on stage and sang the National Anthem but walked out of the stage without performing. They walked out of stage because they were denied access to the Public Address system that is supposed to be used by all the participating schools in the event.
The students also said that, there is no way that they were going to perform their play without their Director who is the former Senator of Kakamega County, honorable Cleophas Malala.
The people who were also doing the Live Coverage of the Drama Festivals were also told to pack their equipment during the time for Butere Girls to perform Echoes of War. The KICD Crew and all the local media partners were also barred from even doing photography. The students were also denied audience to their play.
Aside from that, the girls were also sent home and they have not trained for three weeks. They broke down and said that, they are being frustrated and yet they are just performing their play.
The Play was revolving around governance and the protests that were led by the Gen Zs in June 2024. The Controversial play got its first set back when it was disqualified during the Western Region Drama Festivals under circumstances that are still not very clear.
The High Court had the matter and ruled that, the play should be staged at the National Drama Festivals. More drama was also witnessed on Wednesday night after honorable Cleophas Malala was barred from accessing the venue and he was also threatened by arrest.
