Senator Cherargei Promises Kalonzo, Wamalwa and Wajackoyah Jobs in Government

The Senator of Nandi County, honorable Samson Cherargei has proposed amending the 2010 Constitution to create new positions that could accommodate several opposition leaders, including Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Roots Party Leader George Wajackoya, and DAP-Kenya Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa, as part NADCO report implementation.

This has come amid discussions of creating the position of Prime Minister in order to accommodate honorable Raila Odinga into the government. This is following his unsuccessful stab at the AUC Chairperson’s seat over the weekend in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Nandi Senator wrote a statement shared on his X account on February 18, 2025, it outlined that the constitutional amendments would extend beyond the Prime Minister’s position to establish an Office of the Official Opposition Leader.

According to him, if the NADCO report will be implemented, then, honorable Raila Odinga will become the Prime Minister while the other leaders will occupy the office of the official opposition leader. He said that, this will give them the opportunity to criticize the government constructively and in a more civilized manner.

He said that, the position will have the official opposition leader with his deputies and they will all sit in Parliament. Aside from that, their role will be funded by Taxpayers money and this will promote democracy in the country.

The NADCO Report, which emerged from bipartisan negotiations following the contested 2022 elections, has become central to discussions about reforming Kenya’s governance structure. Honorable Kalonzo Musyoka is the one who led the opposition in the talks that generated the NADCO Report.

Senator Samson Cherargei and the Belgut Member of Parliament, honorable Nelson Koech have been very vocal about creating a role for Raila within the government. They have been saying that, Africa missed the opportunity to get and taste the leadership of honorable Raila Odinga and therefore, they should not allow his leadership skills to just go into waste without being tapped.
