Mixed Reactions as President Ruto’s Allies Offer Raila Odinga Prime Minister Position

The Allies of the Head of State, President William Ruto have revived the debate on the creation of the position of Prime Minister as they look for ways to keep hold of the former Premier, honorable Raila Odinga in their camp ahead of the 2027 General Election.

This has however caused a lot of debate and division among Kenyans. Some people have even threatened that, they will move to court and block any attempt by the government to continue expanding the Executive through a referendum.

The allies of the Head of State are worried that Raila Odinga whom the President Ruto had unsuccessfully pushed and campaigned for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC) could either join the opposition or announce his bid for the presidency in the coming general election. They don’t want him to join the opposition so that he can criticize the government because he had already agreed to form the broad-based government.

The allies of the State now want the government to implement the NADCO Report so that they can achieve that goal. The NADCO report had proposed the formation and creation of the position of a Prime Minister.

Senator Samson Cherargei of Nandi County, honorable Nelson Koech of Belgut Constituency and honorable Eric Wamumbi of Mathira Constituency all stated that, honorable Raila Odinga has a lot of vast knowledge and it should not be left to just go into the drains. They said that, the government should find a way in which they can tap that knowledge.

Honorable Nelson Koech said that, they will have a look again at the NADCO report and make sure that they accommodate honorable Raila Odinga in the government. Some people however feel that, if honorable Raila Odinga is accommodated in the government, then it will be a burden to the Tax payers because he will have to get some salary and packages.

Other Kenyans just want him to stick to his role as the official opposition leader so that he can continue keeping the government in check.
