Setback for Raila Odinga as his AUC Campaign is Hit Hard by Financial Crisis

The race for the next Chairperson of the African Union Commission is intensifying, but as things are currently going on, it is not a smooth sail for the former Prime Minister. His campaign has been hit hard by the Financial Crisis.

This has raised a lot of concerns in regards to the success of the campaigns that will later give him the opportunity to clinch that position. This has come just days after he unveiled his colorful vision and the priorities that he has for Africa.

For the former Prime Minister to get the AUC seat, he needs a lot of resources because the campaigns are done across the African Continent. The financial crisis may hinder him from accessing some parts of Africa and this may even further limit his chances of getting that seat.

The members of the campaign Secretariat, indicated that, they have so far not received their monthly stipend. It was earlier stated by the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Korir Sing’oei, that the National government will set aside some budget to finance that campaign.

Some of the members of the Secretariat, said that, currently, the money is being controlled by unknown government entity and they only provide money for the other programs but leave aide money for the Secretariat.

Some of them said that, things are not as good as people may think. They even said that, their greatest fear right now is that, there may be a lot of money that has been poured in the campaign and they may not be able to defend such because it is being controlled by other people.

Some of the Staff were also allegedly left out during the launch in Addis Ababa because of delayed travel plans. They also said that, the plans to give honorable Raila Odinga a Private jet for his campaigns has also bot yet been fulfilled.
