Detectives who are attached to the Kenya National Examinations Council nabbed a suspect by the name of Stephen Nyang’au Mbeche in Masaba North, Kisii County, who has been circulating KCSE Papers on Telegram to parents and also the candidates.
He was not only distributing the leaked KCSE papers, but also extorting money from the parents and the candidates. He is believed to have created the Group which is known as “KCSE 2024 Leakage Group”. The group had a total of 802 members.
In one of his messages on the Telegram Group, he urged the members to join his VIP Private Channel in order for them to compete with the big schools. He also assured them that, getting a minimum of B+ was guaranteed. He however put a Disclaimer that the B+ and above was only guaranteed after making payments upfront.
When the DCI raided his premises, they found a phone and a laptop that are believed to be his tools of service.
The Cabinet Secretary of Education Julius Migos stated that, they will be very vigilant with the cases of exam malpractices. He also said that, they will handle things differently this time and the schools where the malpractices will be found will not bear the whole burden.
He added that, they will narrow it down to the individuals who will be found in such an act. In the past, schools suffered and some of the candidates had to even sit back and repeat form four because of such cases that involved a few students.
Meanwhile the teachers who were found photocopying Chemistry paper at Pala Masogo Secondary School in Homa Bay County were fined 2 million shillings bond for their act. Cheating is indeed expensive and the teachers are now carrying their own cross in as much as it may seem to be very heavy on their shoulders.
